I’m pregnant, what do I do now?

Congratulations!  If you would like Femina Baby to help keep you and your baby safe along your journey then we suggest you contact us as soon as you can.  We accept direct bookings for pregnancy care, no referral from your GP or midwife is needed.

If you do not already have one we suggest organising an LMC (lead maternity carer) midwife early on, as the one you want may already be getting booked up.  At Femina Baby we are very happy to help you find an LMC if you would like us to. You will hopefully build a close relationship with your midwife so it is important to find one you get along with. It is also helpful to let your GP know you are pregnant too as there may be aspects of your care and general health that need to be addressed.

To find a midwife in your area visit www.findyourmidwife.co.nz

Can I make an appointment to see you or do I need to be referred?

You can make an appoinment at any time without a referral – in fact we would suggest you book an appointment as soon as possible.

For gynaecology consults with our Femina Health team (see www.femina.health) a referral from your GP is preferred. This is to ensure we get a good understanding of your health needs from the beginning as well as ensuring that you, your GP and the team here at Femina are all working together to get you the best results.

How do I make an appointment?

If you are pregnant and wanting specialist obstetric care you can either give us a call on (03) 968 3430 or email us at admin@femina.health.  You can also contact us direct online – see our contact page for more information.

If you have been referred by your midwife or GP we will contact you to arrange a time that suits you for an appointment.

We are hoping to start a family, do I need to do anything now?

At Femina Baby we are here to ensure you have the best possible pregnancy experience, and we can be with you every step along the way.  We would be happy to see you for a pre-conception consultation.

There are some basics that are worth thinking of as early as possible (even before trying to get pregnant).  Your medical and family history are an important consideration at this point and there are supplements that all New Zealand women are advised to take which can be prescribed.

We would always encourage you to involve your GP too as they often know you and your history the best.

I’m close to having a baby, can I still have a private obstetrician?

Yes, we often receive referrals for women late in their pregnancy. Whether you have just found out you need a caesarean section, or just want the security of having your own specialist at your delivery we are here to help.

Ideally, however, we would like to care for you throughout your pregnancy so we can get to know you and your family and tailor your delivery to be as stress free as possible.  Unfortunately, we are not able to look after every woman who wants private obstetric care, so we suggest getting in touch early in your pregnancy if possible.

How much does specialist pregnancy care cost?

If you are considering private care, it is a good idea to contact your health insurance provider to see what they cover.

At Femina we offer very competitive pricing for specialist obstetric care.  The fee covers all the appointments you might need as well as having a specialist on call to care for you at any time during your pregnancy and delivery.  If you are interested we suggested you get in touch to find out more via: admin@femina.health , the enquiry form on our contact page, or give us a call on (03) 9683430.

How much does a single consultation cost?

The consultation fee will depend on the type of appointment you require.  It is easiest if you give us a call on (03) 9683430 or email us at admin@femina.health for a quote. You can also send an enquiry direct through the form on our contact page.

I have had my baby but am looking for a gynaecologist. Can Femina Baby help?

Yes. Our obstetricians are also specialist gynaecologists. We would be very happy to help you.  Please see our Femina Health website at www.femina.health for more information.

Can I be cared for by Femina Baby if I am planning to have a home birth?

Whilst we actively support every woman and her individual choices with regard to her birth plan,  for logistical and safety reasons we are unable to facilitate the delivery of your baby outside of a hospital setting. It is worth noting that many of the key benefits of having a private obstetrician attending you at your delivery are lost if you are not in a facility where we can fully assist you. Having said that, we are still more than happy to care for you alongside your midwife during your pregnancy if you wish, and perhaps provide further advice nearer the time regarding the best place for you to deliver. Please contact us to make an appointment if you would like to discuss things further with one of our team.
